But for those of us in the know, radio remains a great way of receiving information, music and news while simultaneously avoiding the distraction of a screen. TuneIn Radio lets you access more than 40,000 radio stations from around the world using your phone's internet connection. Simply search by keyword, category or genre, pick the station you want to listen to and it buffers nearly instantly.
We tested TuneIn Radio with both WiFi and standard data connections and received near-perfect reception with very few breaks in service. Its battery usage was not excessive on the HTC Legend test device we used. In fact, the only criticism we have is that the app doesn't include an option to sort your presets (as bookmarks are known in the TuneIn Radio app).
The app lets you listen to AM/FM radio stations in your locality, as well as downloading and playing popular podcasts. TuneIn Radio is pleasantly designed and simple to use. It also features sleep timers and alarm settings, so you can set your phone to wake you up with your favorite radio show or podcasts.
