OneDrive is a free tool from Microsoft that allows you to store files online so you can access them remotely and share them with others.
What does OneDrive do?
OneDrive gives you 25Gb of free space to save files such as images, videos and documents. The OneDrive app allows you to access your files from your Windows Phone 7 device quickly and easily. Simply sign in with your OneDrive account details and you'll have access to everything you've saved online.
The elegant user interface in the OneDrive app is divided into three sections that you can swipe through effortlessly. You can view all files and folders, recently uploaded ones, or shared ones. There's also an option to view files in list format or in icon view.
View uploaded files on your phone
Besides giving you the ability to instantly upload files from your Windows Phone to OneDrive, the application allows you to view files you've already uploaded. For example, you can click on an image to open it fullscreen, then choose to save it to your device memory or SD card. You can swipe through images to flick through an album, though there's no slideshow option.
As well as viewing images, you can also access other kinds of file on OneDrive, such as Office documents and videos. Again these can be downloaded to your device, too.
Viewing problems
In our tests on an LG Optimus we had trouble viewing some documents, and OneDrive threw up an error, rather than opening the document in the native Office app for Windows Phone. This seemed to occur especially with OneNote documents, but luckily there is a workaround for this. We also had problems opening certain video files, too. Hopefully these issues will be fixed in future releases of OneDrive.
If you want a way to store files online and access them on your mobile device, OneDrive is an attractive choice.
